Medical Websites Ignore Tasigna's Risks

Medical professionals are so enthusiastic about the drug's ability to fight cancer that they are ignoring Tasigna's other life-threatening side effects including sudden death

Friday, August 10, 2018 - When it comes to treating cancer even the most respected and knowledgeable physicians can have on blinders. Oncologists are so focused on beating cancer that they often overlook the side effect that a newer, more effective drug can present to a patient down the road. To an oncologist, all that matters is getting their patient into remission and extending the patient's life by whatever means possible. Sometimes as in the case of Novartis wonder drug Tasigna, fraud, corruption, and even patient death is secondary to getting a patient past cancer.

When researching Tasigna the findings all point to the drug's effectiveness in fighting Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), even more so than the drug it replaced, Gleevec. Popular medical websites have all published pages about Tasigna's effectiveness in restoring a CML patient's white blood cells to within an acceptable range. WebMD, CML.com, and others highlight Tasigna's effectiveness and little mention if any is ever made to the disease that will replace CML. Atherosclerosis is being reported by more and more cancer patients that have beaten cancer only to be left with a death sentence from atherosclerosis, a disease that is irreversible and untreatable.

The risk of a Tasigna patient developing atherosclerosis is so great that an oncologist is prohibited from using the drug if their patient has a pre-existing blood abnormality or heart condition. Atherosclerosis usually takes decades to develop, however, Tasigna atherosclerosis is "rapid-onset" meaning that Tasigna can do to a patient's arteries in weeks what it takes MacDonald's BigMacs years. Atherosclerosis and peripheral artery disease is the buildup of fatty tissue called plaque within these walls. The interior walls of the arteries are smooth allowing blood to flow easily through them to the narrower veins and capillaries. Tasigna causes the smooth surface of the arteries to become inflamed and rough and even the slightest blood imperfection will cause plaque to stick and accumulate. Prospective patients must undergo complete blood testing and an electrocardiogram before, during and after treatments with Tasigna. These Tasigna precautions are in response to FDA reports of atherosclerosis reduced blood flow to the arteries leading to the feet resulting in necrosis (tissue death) of the toes, feet, and legs, and blockages that cause paralysis from strokes and sudden from having a heart attack.

As if atherosclerosis and peripheral artery disease were not enough, an even more frequent consequence of taking Tasigna is a heart condition called QT Prolongation. QT is simply the interval in between heartbeats and taking Tasigna caused this period to expand and can cause sudden death from having a heart attack.

Tasigna patients have a right to know all of the side effects of their anti-cancer drug presents so that they can make an informed decision as to which one is right for them. Tasigna patients have been denied this basic right by Novartis sales reps that mislead pharmacists to ignore Tasigna side effects and to stress the drug's cancer-fighting effectiveness only. For many, dying from cancer may have been preferable to the pain and suffering from Tasigna. Attorneys representing Tasigna cancer cases continue to defend the patients whom suffered from the side effects of Tasigna treatments.
