Tasigna Doctors May Be Ignoring Atherosclerosis Risks

Tasigna cancer patients must watch for the signs that they have started to develop atherosclerosis

Friday, January 11, 2019 - It was recently revealed that NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul Jabbar underwent heart bypass surgery to correct blockages to his arteries that had occurred. Heart-related problems must have been the last thing on the retired NBA star since he led an active, healthy lifestyle and eats a mostly healthy diet. Kareem does not smoke or drink. The only unhealthy activity that he and tens of thousands of others partake in is receiving anti-cancer chemotherapy treatments using the highly toxic drug Tasigna. To date, Kareem and thousand of other coronary bypass patients may be unaware of that their blood circulation and heart problems were caused by the drug. It would be interesting to know how many oncologists are following the "Black Box" written Tasigna warnings to perform blood work and electrocardiograms (ECG)s on their Tasigna cancer patients before, during, and after every Tasigna treatment to monitor them for signs of atherosclerosis.

It is essential that oncologists perform tests on their Tasigna cancer patients to catch atherosclerosis before it reaches its more advanced stage. Tasigna atherosclerosis is "rapid onset" meaning that it develops and advances more aggressively than if the patient develops the condition from a genetic predisposition or a lifetime of smoking and a poor diet. Tasigna is so inextricably linked to atherosclerosis that the product warning label prohibits its usage if the patient has a pre-existing heart or blood abnormality. In addition to the standardized blood and ECG testing, Tasigna cancer patients must watch for the signs that they have started to develop atherosclerosis.

According to WebMD.com, there are several early warning sign of atherosclerosis to watch for. The first is chest pain or angina as a result of exercising, accompanied by shortness of breath and tightness in the chest that is relieved by rest. Slurred speech is another sign of atherosclerosis and can signal an atherosclerosis-related stroke may occur in the future. Normal speech usually returns within an hour or two. This is called "Cerebrovascular disease or a transient ischemic attack (TIA)." Another early warning sign of atherosclerosis is a pain in the legs and feet called peripheral arterial disease (PAD). If you experience pain, tingling, or numbness in the toes and feet you may be developing atherosclerosis as less nutrient-rich blood is making its way to your extremities. Tasigna patients must be aware of that Tasigna causes atherosclerosis and watch diligently for the first sign that any of these conditions are occurring.

Patients that are diagnosed with atherosclerosis early are usually given blood-thinning drugs to try and keep the blood flowing as normally as possible. If drugs fail more aggressive treatments such as surgery to implant a stent may be needed. If all else fails, or if an atherosclerosis patient has waited too long before seeking treatment, coronary bypass surgery is usually performed. Tasigna patients have been kept mostly in the dark as to the drugs potential to cause atherosclerosis so early detection is usually ignored. Oncologists perform primarily as cancer doctors and are not accustomed to performing heart and blood-related analysis on their patients before giving them chemotherapy. As long as doctors continue to ignore Tasigna's toxicity their patients may be merely swapping one deadly disease for another.
